"All I want for Christmas is a loo"

Seasons greetings!

Andy had a target to get our bathroom plumbed before Christmas.

And he only went and got it done a month before!

It's so nice not having to go outside to the toilet or for a shower; especially as it's started getting cold again.

I managed find some matt black floor tiles and very similar matt black mosiac tiles for the shower. Andy waterproofed the shower area and sprayed the chrome shower unit black.

We rented a digger for him to dig up the ground and lay the new waste pipe and connected it the old waste. We have talked about replacing the whole thing and if we should do it now and come back and do it at a later date and we decided to do the later.

We had a little mishap with the shower pump in that it decided to die! Luckily screwfix replaced it for us and we paid a bit more to get a better one that's a lot quieter and has better reviews.

The suite was put in; including the pièce de résistance - my bath! I've been celebrating with lots of baths!

Andy is going to take it easy between now and the new year - I think he deserves it!

He has started building the brick wall that will separate the living room and second bedroom. A few blog posts back we bought some reclaimed bricks to do this and they've been sitting outside waiting!

There probably won't be any other updates this year. So from ours to yours, have a smashing Christmas and new year!

Roofing

How do!

I have to start by apologising for the lack of updates. The Blogger app apparently is no longer compatible with the newest Apple software and so it keeps crashing when I'm in the middle of writing an update and have to start all over again. I got so pissed off I sort of gave up but then thought of giving something a go. So this update comes courtesy of iPhone Notes and the copy and paste function....!

I have a public instagram account where I put a lot of pictures: https://www.instagram.com/teaganobrien/

So we have a fully furnished bedroom now! Which is very exciting! Needs some pictures and ornamental shite oh and second fix electrics. But doesn't it look smashing?

Andy also spent a couple of months re-roofing the old roof. We knew it needed doing soon and where the old and new met there was leaking so he decided to re-felt, batten and tile.

In one day, Andy and his dad took all the old tiles and felt off and got the new waterproof membrane on!

After it...it rained a lot!

Big thank you to Mike for helping and being on spider moving and wasp nest destroying duty.

The conical bit took the poor lad a long time! When the batten was on it looked like a work of art though!

Then the mammoth job of putting the tiles back on began.

Because Andy added vertical batten, it made the roof bigger. When we did the extensions we didn't go as high as the architect had in his plans as we were worried about taking too much away from the old roof. However, with the extra batten, it is pretty much back to how it was with the old extensions and I don't think it's compromised at all.

Andy did a great job as usual and many people commented on how neat it was! He cemented the ridge himself and put a new fascia in the front.

For someone who has not done any of this before you have to take your hat off to him - impeccable work! Some during and after comparisons.

We had a pretty big storm not long after it was all finished and there have been zero leaks!

Focus has now shifted to the bathroom! It is tiled and grouted and just waiting on some electrical work before we can finish off the decoration.

We need to rent a digger for the waste trenches and Andy wants to do a bit of work on the septic tank. Our soak away pipe needs replacing as tree roots have got in and damaged it. So it needs digging up and replacing and root proofing!

Trees sure are pretty but boy do they do some damage...!

Andy has now gone back to work a couple of days a week as we have depleted our savings! But I don't believe we need a great deal more to finish.

When we are done I will do a blog update just talking about money and timescales and that. I'm sure you're interested but I want to wait till we are done and know how much we've spent and what it's worth when it's done.

Till next time....!

1 room down....(There or there abouts)

Greetings readers!

Lots of exciting things and lots of pictures so let's get straight in. Those who follow my instagram will have seen many of these already....so sorry!

Last time we were about to get the bedroom plastered. Things have moved on a lot from there! Not only is it plastered; it's painted, carpeted and a little bit furnished! I'm going to tease you with the progress in order rather than go straight to the finished photos.

First came the plastering....

Then came the painting....

Then the skirting...

And the amazing skylight light...

Then the carpet....

And the bespoke door...

And finally; some furniture!

We obviously need to finish furnishing, buts it's there or there abouts (see title).

What else have we been up to? Well Andy has been making excellent progress with the bathroom

We bought some things to go in there; some funky taps from eBay and we have the "vanity unit" as well (a flower pot...and an old singer sewing machine table).

And also bought my bath! We had to buy this and get it in the room before we build the stud wall as it wouldn't have fitted through the gap where the door will eventually be!

The plumbing is also ready to go in the bathroom.

We are also plaster boarded in the bathroom and should be getting it plastered next week - and then we can start tiling and decorating this room! Andy needs to do some digging outside and run new waste pipe to our septic tank before we can finally say goodbye to the pooh shed. But it won't be long!
